The lone debut from Cinemaquette at Comic-Con this year, they compensated for the lack of new statues (Bruce Lee and the Godfather are 2008 repeats) by building a tremendous amount of buzz on the back of the Christopher Reeve Superman. They did a good job with the likeness, and the hair even looks good for the most part. Though the fly-aways are troubling– if the CM crew themselves cannot contain them, it may prove to be an arduous task for the customer.

The pose selection and execution are also well done, though the base is incredibly plain. The color of the costume also may need some further adjustment, though I will rightly leave it to the experts on just what and how.

Details are scarce other than the above graphic teased on Cinemaquette’s website, but a lock is likely for being a Christopher Reeve rendition of the iconic superhero, judging by the characteristic styling of the symbol. As noted, this piece will make its debut at this year’s Comic-Con. As always, stay tuned right here for coverage from the event!

The Big Bang Theory is a CBS comedy here in the states about 4 geeks. The genuine Caltech-smart variety. It is a prolonged riff on nerd-dom which deals frequently with all of the expected themes: ineptitude with women, Star Trek/Wars references, comic conventions, etc.

Like any proper geek, the protagonists are devout patrons of a comic book store which featuring among other things, a prominent accoutrement none other than Weta’s The Daily Planet statue, from Superman Returns. We must applaud the set designer’s exquisite taste– or did they simply pick out the geekiest thing they could find? You be the judge.

Of course it takes a true geek (and one who proudly has this piece in his collection) to be able to point out such nonsense to you, dear readers. You can see a clip of The Daily Planet getting quite a bit of air time here.

No More Brandon Routh

Lots of blue business these days from Warner Bros.- their sudden abandonment of the maroon-y HD DVD comes right on the heels of a widespread rumor that Brandon Routh is not welcome back as Supes (and neither is Singer as director, the more easily believable rumor of the two). The crux of the dirt was that whomever WB was seeking for the “Justice League” film would take over wholesale for the standalone sequel as well.

But wait, there’s more! The folks at Aintitcool, who at first latched on with confirmation, say via an update that a ‘reliable’ inside source assures the Routh rumor was all bunk. Now you gotta wonder if any of this was ever credible, or will it just be good for a laugh when we’re sitting in the seats watching Bryan Singer’s THE MAN OF STEEL.
