Yeah. I LOVE action movies, but I thought Transformers 2 was a little weak. Although the mom was fricken hilarious, the second half of the movie got boring. The big, climatic fight at the end wasn’t very climatic at all, and it went on so long that the special effects weren’t really special anymore. heh. I’ve never really been a fan of the special effects shots, anyway. There are way too many close shots where you have no idea wtf is going on. When they had bumblebee transform like half way through the movie, the camera angle was from far away, and it looked gorgeous. I wish more of the movie had been like that. sigh. But yeah, I did have fun with the movie though…. I just understand why lots of critics hated it. Anyway, nice post.
Hey Justin, thanks for the comment. And I agree wholeheartedly with what you say. Here’s the review I posted on the forum:
The story was terrible. I mean, simply incomprehensible and irratic as a mofo. Nobody praised Transformers 1 for its story, but it was incredibly serviceable. And a masterpiece compared to Revenge. I can’t believe the same two dudes wrote Star Trek.
But if Bay gets somewhat of a pass for that, since he didn’t write this debacle, you can fault him certainly for the visuals. I’ve always thought TF’s visuals were ahead of its time, and this proves me right as it looks exactly the same. (that’s not really a complaint) There’s more CG (hey, that’s what we’re here for right?) that can be solidly said, but TF1 was much more… ‘efficient’ with its use. There were a good deal of, I hate to use the word iconic…. but memorable shots in the first film. Not much of it in the sequel seems particularly inspired. Disregard anything you’ve read promising that the on-screen matter will be any less confusing. It’s more confusing, way more.
The fact that you don’t know any of the Transformers certainly contributes to that fact. Remember Jazz in the first Transformer? Any connection you had with that character (which is to say, probably very little) is way more than any of the new robots. Prime is the only one with some semblance of a personality, which is not great praise considering he has the most screen time. There’s a kinda cool silver Corvette guy… I have no idea what its name is.
Instead of taking the GREAT opportunity to introduce some really cool TF’s, we got that silver Vette, and two ‘jive talking’ robots which is/will be mentioned in every review you read. They are robots that sound like Wanda Sykes. Something NOBODY was asking for. On the bad guys’ side, you get a whole lot of folks that all look the same as Megatron, and the devastator or whatever (the BIG one) was a dud. Comes out of absolutely nowhere. Again, you’ll have zero connection to any of the 8000 things happening at once.
There is copious amounts of cheese here, but I hesitate to agree with all the reviews saying he’s amped it up– there was plenty of cheese in the first one. It’s disappointing that he didn’t tone it down but Bay’s going to do things the Bay way, and that’s fine. Cheese was the least of the film’s problems in the overall scheme of things.
Mike should’ve taken Downey’s advice from Tropic Thunder to heart.
I agree with both of ya!
my quick review-
The movie was not that good, the story was indeed pretty pathetic. A lot of times the cgi/special effects was just too busy so you couldn’t tell what was going on…gave it a sloppy characteristic at times.
Megan Fox was
The 2 annoying robots reminded me of jar jar binks…movie would’ve been much better without them
The kid (Sam’s roommate) had no real point being in this movie- he was ultra annoying at times.
A lot of cool stuff though, great sound with all the gunfire on the ground and bad ass air support
It will sound and look pretty good on bluray.
It will indeed! The A/V aspect is not in dispute for sure.
I have read the bots referred to as Car Car Binks, so you’re not alone.
I watched the Transformers cartoon version during my childhood days. It is nice to know that good computer graphics brought the Transformers back again. I wish to see more of the Dinobots in action perhaps on another sequel.
Great books and great movies, makes me want to be a wizard!
