Blades Of Glory
Posted by: Charles Song in Weta Collectibles, tags: rare item, Weta WorkshopDid you miss the teaser announcement last week right here at [[Artist Proof]]? Yes indeedy, Weta Collectibles will be selling prop swords from Peter Lyon, and the latest Weta Cast sheds more light on the mystery. One thing is certain, the swords will in fact be “one-offs” and not a part of any concrete mass produced ‘range’– as Peter himself describes it, this is all coming about as the downtime between film projects sometimes affords him the opportunity to work on “special commissions” for collectors.
Have a listen to the pod cast for yourself and see if you can decipher it any better than I.

Better yet, pick Mr. Lyon’s brain yourself at the Leeds, UK exhibit this upcoming weekend and more importantly, give us the scoop!

Well, I recognize Glamdring, but what’s the other sword? Looks cool.
I no longer regret passing up the ME Glamdring from MR.

I honestly don’t know if that is a LOTR piece– though it certainly looks like it could be. (I’ve never really collected prop swords so I’m a little shy on knowledge here)
On your suggestion, it isn’t Glamdring from what I can gather. It does have similarities though.

The one on the left kinda looks like a samurai version of Sting…and the other one looks like Glamdring…but I think its just because of the blue color.

The one on the right looks very LOTRish. Here’s to hoping!

I can shed more light on this since I was intimately involved in the creation of these swords
They are not LOTR or any other film-related swords. They have been created especially for the Weta Cave, and my brief was pretty simple: make a pair of cool swords, to my own design tastes. These are the results. I am especially proud of the machaera (the curvy one), the photos don’t do justic to the subtleties of the shapes and how they interact. Definitely have a look at the pictures and descriptions at the Weta site for more details.
If you really really want a special sword made to your own requirements, contact Weta Cave and we will see what can be done!
